THE 9-5 SYNDROME
THE 9-5 SYNDROME

"Definitely, you want to sack your boss and be your own boss."
Definitely, you want to start a business, you want to sack your boss and be your own boss, you want to have that freedom to make and implement decisions, you don't want to be bossed around.
The above shows the orientation of a typical Nigerian, as almost everyone wants to start a business, and this narrative has been forced directly or indirectly on almost everyone, making it seem as if the salary earners are failures, living an unfulfilled life and not taking their lives seriously, forgetting that business has its own ups and downs, and many have even closed down.
Truth be told, our psychological build up and mental orientation differ. The way we think differs. Some are actually built for a 9-5 job. Fulfillment comes with the joy of fulfilling a task or a function, notwithstanding the stress and challenges that come with it.
I remember being in a taxi where the driver was listening to Fuji music and really enjoying it. I asked in my mind, "how is he actually vibing to this?" But then, I replied to myself, "the same way someone would ask me how I vibe to country music, which may be slow and boring to others." Our mental frame work and orientation differ. Our choice differs.
Everybody cannot go into business fully. That is why we see most 9-5 jobbers having a side hustle that does not necessarily clash with their job and also performs the duty of a second income. Even those in the business world need 9–5 jobbers for smooth operations. Both actually complement each other.
Hence, understanding our mental frame of work, orientation, and choices would go a long way to stop the negative profiling and stigma leveled against 9-5 jobbers. Both actually complement eachother and give a balance to the world's economy.
Stop the negative profiling today.
I think those people deserves an award. They're the real MVPs. Most youths are not even ready to work anymore, and that is why ritual killings is on the rise. Getting a job is like getting a life.
