LIFE IS IN PERSPECTIVE
LIFE IS IN PERSPECTIVE

"The situation in life, corresponds to the communication in life"
On my way home from work, one of my students approached me. She was due for her career presentation the next day. The fear and anxiety were written all over her face; "Sir, professors and doctors would be present for my presentation tomorrow," she said. I was actually lost in thought as I had so much emotional baggage weighing me down. I could only reply, "who cares?" I projected back to life, and seeing the disappointment on her face, as that was not what she intended to hear, I knew immediately that I had misfired. I tried to salvage the situation by saying, "Who cares about their presence? You are not seeing them. You have prepared well for this, so go out there tomorrow and shine. Give it your best." It then dawned on me that "the situation in life corresponds to the communication in life".
Hence, that situation or experience in which we find ourselves determines in a great deal our perspective about issues in life. We were born into the world 'tabula rasa' and everything we know is bourne out of the imprint of experience, and this leads to different perspective on issues due to the different range of experience that we have.
I remember watching a video of a professor who came to the class with a cue ball having at each side a black and white colour, he sat two students down facing each other with the cue ball in their midst, each of them having the different colour facing them, which was actually unknown to them but only known to the professor and the audience (other students) who could see both colours. The argument became a very heated one when the two students were asked to give the colour of the cue ball as they both have different experiential knowledge of it. What you see as six, actually and factually appears as nine to another person the other way round.
These perspectives often lead to divergent views and positions on issues, and no one argument is more valid than the other, you either present a strong or weak argument based on your perspective which is an influence on one's experience.
But then, it's a sad thing when I see people go vile and bitter on one another because they have different views on an issues, most especially in the social space, this can only be as a result of the fact that we have not yet understood that life is in perspective, and unless we understand that, we would keep having problems with people that don't succumb to our views on an issue.
We should remember that variety is the spice of life, and different perspective on an issue, would not only add to our body of knowledge, but would also lead to our intellectual growth.
